Sri Lanka, The Pearl of The Indian Ocean, is a small pear shaped island nestled in the Bay of Bengal. This island, from its calm and tranquil beaches to happening night clubs provides the ideal holiday respite from your hectic day to day life. Formerly known as Serendib to the Arab traders, Sri Lanka exports tea, cinnamon, and coconuts. In the cool eternal spring of the Central Highlands, velvet swags of tea drape the mountains and the occasional steppe paddy fields refresh the mind with their palate greens

Religion

Several religions are accepted in Sri Lanka such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity and Islam. Buddhism constitutes the religious faith of about 70% of the population of the island. The second largest religion is Hinduism. Hinduism was primarily established in Sri Lanka by migrants and often invaders from southern India, and Hindus now constitute seven to fifteen percent of the population of the country. Followers of Islam comprise approximately eight percent of the population, having been brought to the island by Arab traders over the course of many centuries. European colonists introduced Christianity to the country in the 16th century, and the religion has been adopted by around six percent of the population.

Museums

There are several museums in Sri Lanka, each of which has a fascinating array of items on display.

The World’s Finest Teas

The rolling hills of Nuwara Eliya, with an altitude of 1,890 meters, produce the world's best tea - called the 'Champagne of Teas' - celebrated for its fine flavor and lingering freshness. Sri Lanka is the world's leading producer of high quality tea, which is our main export. Today, Sri Lanka produces more than 300,000 metric tons of tea. Most itineraries which include hill country resorts also include a visit to a tea estate and factory to see production and processing which is done in some of the most scenic areas of the island.

Entertainment

Many forms of entertainment are available in Sri Lanka, such as traditional dances, plays, movies, and night clubs. Beachgoer’s Paradise Sri Lanka is famous for its beaches and for good reason too. They offer activities from surfing and scuba diving to building sand castles for the kids.

Wildlife

Sri Lanka is a bird lover’s and ornithologist's paradise. Of the 435 recorded species, 230 are resident, and no less that 23 are endemic to the island. Most of the endemic birds are restricted to the wet zone. Others can be found throughout the island, although confined to small areas of humid forests. Sri Lanka has a rich and exotic variety of wildlife. The jungles of Sri Lanka abound in a variety of wildlife, which is surprising for an island of its size in the tropics. The best known national park is the Ruhunu National Park at Yala. There are also two other national parks at Inginiyagala and Uda Walawe. The Painted Stork, many varieties of heron, the spoonbill, the bee-eater, many colourful parrots and parakeets, and the hornbill can be seen by the observant.
